Week 4: Interactive Tech History Lesson: OLPC: Following in the Heritage of Logo & the MIT Media Lab

Oh, my goodness! I think that this is an excellent idea and I guess I would ask why can't poor students in America get them in this way too. I work in an economically disadvantaged school where there are many kids who could also benefit from this program. I love the collaboration idea between students in a class; my, what I could do with that!! I favor the solar panel in keeping with the "green" idea for the future! I would buy one of these; matter of fact, I wish that I could get one for every child I teach!

  1. I agree that this is totally cool. The logo turtle was really neat! I even found a website that is an interactive Logo Turtle. So you can input commands and it will draw just like in the videos. I would love to do this with my students. I'm trying to think how.

  2. When I saw the first presentation of the OLPC (XO) several years ago that was my first question too: why can't we have this technology here in the states. The foundation director and keynote speaker, Nicolas Negroponte, was pretty clear that the means to making the computer "affordable" was to work with huge numbers. So, he was only interested in selling to countries where he could make deals for millions of units. He specifically said that he doesn't want to have to deal with all of these tiny school districts who might buy like 20 units. Sad but true.
